PB is a clever thing, but it's not almighty. The vast majority of PB errors I see in the server logs are communication failures; ie your firewall is blocking PB from the server. Make damned sure PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB are allowed through your firewall.

Manually Updating PB

PB will try to keep itself up to date when you're playing by downloading updates in the background. Most of the time it works, however to avoid the odd time when it doesn't, it's good practise to update PB yourself....

First off, grab the update tool from HERE

Make a folder somewhere handy and drop the pbsetup.exe you've just downloaded into it.

Fire the program up, add your PB games (you might need to browse to the installation directory) and then check for updates.

For the amount of bad press PB gets you'd think this was complicated. I don't think they could have made it any simpler tbh......

Bad Company 2 Heartbeat Errors

Just to make a liar out of me, the manual update tool misses out 1 crucial file with BC2. If you get kicked from servers with a PB Heartbeat error message, download the 'Player's' file from HERE and drop it into the Bad Company 2/pb directory

That should keep most people free from PB issues for the rest of their gaming life. However, if you do find yourself kicked for a PB error, you're best resource is to contact the admin of the server you got booted from. A quick look through the server logs and he'll be able to tell you what the problem is.
