    BC2 - lower graphics a cheat?

Hello, back in the day of 2142 if you played on low graphics setting, you had the shadows turned off, and this meant that when i hid in the shadows in my game, people on lower powered machines could see me like i was in daylight.

in thsi new BC2 we have tonnes of graphic features and i am wondering do you get the snow/sand/ dirt effects off on low, so as a sniper you can see easier? are shadows off to a degree so you can see more easily?

i would try it, but i am a graphics whore and would cry - is this correct?

I'll try this later... it would explain how I sometimes get shot out of absolutely nowhere!

I don't really believe in doing this though if it works, as it's not really in the spirit of the game.. and more importantly, I too am a graphics whore

I've been thinking about that, but since I've spent years on a crappy computer and games on lowest settings I really wanna play BC2 on highest settings now when I can. However If we ever where to play more competetive like arranged games against other clans or something I would defo try to get the advantage. It wouldn't surprise me if it actually works that way that especially as a sniper you got an advantage running the game on lower settings

I can confirm that this is not the case at all. I play the game on pretty low settings, and I still get all of the sand, dust and whatnot. That's why you need a dual core or higher, even on the lowest settings, to power all of the effects.

The need for a dual core is mostly the sound - if your having to turn all your settings down to get a playable game then turn sound quality down as well - DICE render thier own sound on the CPU for BC2 and don't use your soundcard's mixer.

I run mine on very low, sometimes I have to say there is an advantage because at a distance not all objetcs draw them selves correctly and I can see people behind them, although I still can't shoot them so no real advantage!

Can any one tell me, does running your graphics on a lower level get you a faster connection to the server?

just changed mine from high to medium, it does seem to be a hint faster, but i am assuming this is frame rate.

    used these settings:

Rotating rank is a glitch, no rank after 3 games means they probably suck as badly as I do ^_^
