    BC2 low FPS

    Hi all, i need help, I get very low fps in BC2, any where from 15 to as high as 30, but normally around 19-22 FPS!

    My Rig is:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (@ 2400 Mhz)
    9800GT 1GB Graphics
    3.5GB RAM DDR2
    Vista 32 Bit

    Below are my current .ini settings;

    [WindowSettings]
    Width=1600
    Height=900
    Fullscreen=false
    RefreshRate=59.882999
    VSync=false
    [Sound]
    Quality=low
    VoipEnable=true
    SpeakerCount=0
    [Graphics]
    Effects=low
    Soldiers=low
    Vehicles=low
    Overgrowth=low
    Undergrowth=low
    StaticObjects=low
    Terrain=low
    Shadows=low
    Bloom=false
    HSAO=false
    MSAA=0
    Water=low
    MainQuality=custom
    Texture=low
    DxVersion=10
    Aniso=1
    Detail=low
    RenderAheadLimit=0
    Fov=85

    I've messed around with the settings alot and to be honest most things don't make any or much difference. I assume it's because of my CPU? If it is then would an upgrade to a faster AMD 2 CPU make a differenace or do I need to look at a new type of CPU?

    I think it's most likely your cpu Vimes. a regular dual-core just doesn't cut it for this game. What socket you got on your motherboard? If it's an AM2+ or AM3 I'd strongly recommend getting an AMD Phenom II for the cheapest rig upgrade. If not then you're looking at a new motherboard with the new Intel/AMD socket.

    Play in Dx9 mate (change DxVersion=10 to DxVersion=9) - that should help a lot and its the only thing I see in your settings file that you haven't tried.

    Laxe is right though your CPU will be limiting you even with sound quality set to low, what cooler do you have? Any chance of an overclock? Even a tiny one might help more than you'd think.

    If you don't fancy messing about with overclocking and don't want to spend a bomb upgrading mobo etc for £50 you could try - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-195-AM which your mobo should support.

    Tried it mate and doesn't make a jot of difference I've even tried over clocking, this does work but my system is unstable and crash's, I have an AM2 board, but an upgrade I think may be a good short term answer but I dunno if it will be sufficent.

    Looks like it's time to save some money, i think I'll go the hog and get a new mother board and quad core and PSU. Looks like a few months of saving thou, i'll just make do until then, thanks

    My first guess would be to put it on DX9 as it will default to DX10 due to your GPU.

    However, BC2 is very CPU-intensive and requires a Dual Core processor as a minimum. This is due to all the graphical and sound effects it has to process, since they decided to use the CPU to do the awesome sounds (I guess a sound chip alone wouldn't have made it awesome enough!). Therefore, like others have said, it's gotta be a CPU upgrade for you. AM3 is a good way to go, the AM3 Athlon series has some really cheap quad-core goodness which would really help you out on this game. You will unfortunately need a new mobo and DDR3 for that, but it'll be worth it. There's actually a pretty trusty MSI 770 AM3 board out there for just £50 which has rave reviews - you could be looking at an upgrade for just £150-200.

    Your graphics card isn't best suited either as it's getting on a bit - an ATI HD5770 can be had for around £120 and will fair much better in all games.

    In the mean time, you could try using different graphics card and/or sound card drivers, but if other games are running fine then this is unlikely to be the problem.

    have you tried lowering the sound quality? It might take some of the load off the CPU if its struggling

    Thanks guys, but i've tried all that, believe me and most of it doesn't make any differance at all. I will just have to make do with now until I can upgrade my CPU and mother board

    I would still drop it down to Dx9 Vimes - makes no sense playing in Dx10 when you know your having FPS issues. The difference may not be massively apparent but I guarantee it will help, most of all it will make slow downs less obvious when a lots happening on screen.
