    WANTED: Intel 775 CPU

    Hi,

My CPU (don't giggle - Pentium D 2.8) is under spec'ed for BC2 so after a replacement processor - before I shell out for a new one (looking at something like E8400/E8600 Pentium Core Duo) was hoping I could pickup a used decent spec Socket 775 Core2 or Quad?

Anyone have one loafing about that they would be willing to part with?

    Ta,

    Lard

Hmm... I am tempted to offer my cpu here...

I am currently using an E8200 overclocked to, and fully stable at, 3.6GHz (stock is 2.66GHz). I've had it at 4.1GHz before although it wasn't completely stable. On my P45 board I was able to keep it at 4GHz although I didn't Prime95 it so I don't know how stable it was - it seemed fine though. At 3.6GHz on my nForce 790i board it's been Prime tested and is 100% stable.

It has also been lapped to knock off a couple of degrees - utterly pointless but I got really bored last year and decided to give it a go. It did seem to reduce temps by about 1 or 2 degrees, but there was really no point to it. All it means really is that the surface of the CPU is now shiny copper If you need clarification that I'm not offering up a duffer, I'll provide some CPU-Z and BIOS photos of course

The downside to this is that, by going to town on it with the sandpaper, I have voided its warranty - so should it die at any point then you will not be able to send it back to Intel for a replacement. Then again, I don't personally see that as too much of an issue as it has worked flawlessly for about a year and a half now I think, and I'm sure it has plenty of time left. But that's something to think about.

Also, I guess if I'm offering my CPU, I'd be happy to offer you my mobo, an EVGA nForce 790i Ultra.

Oh and would you like a Coolermaster Stacker 831 with that? It's actually an OEM case with Evesham on it instead of Coolermaster, but it's a Stacker nonetheless. I.e. I'm pretty sure it actually is a Stacker, just without the Coolermaster branding on it. I've also added a clear side window into it, and cut holes in the mobo tray to feed cables through as it was a nightmare before.

PM me if you're interested in any of this lot, although I can't guarantee they're up for sale just yet as I'm not sure what I can replace them with (I would just like to be on the way to an upgrade at the mo as I'm bored again! ). But yeah, feel free to make me an offer if you wish.
