    Teething Problems On Win7

After getting Win7 installed on my PC and finding a wifi card that the OS will recognise, it seems that I have a couple of minor problems.

Problem 1: I can't get my mic to work using any programs, when i start TS i get this error message Attachment 254 when i click ok i can log into TS normally, but it gives me the little symbol that normally means your mic is muted.

Problem 2: My webcam wont work in MSN, I can load up the software for it and its works fine, but when I start a video call via msn, the cam's light comes on but where the image in the windows should be theres a web cam with a cross on it, with a grey background.

Any help with either of these issues would be greatly appreciated. :\

Go into the TS settings and select 'Direct Sound' that fixes this problem 99% of the time.

If not then check your audio device is set correctly in control panel - you using on board audio or a card/GPU?

The mic isn't even being picked up by my PC, I'm using onboard sound on an Asus P5q Deluxe

EDIT: I've just changed the setting in TS to direct sound, I no longer get the error, now I jsut need to figure out why my PC refuses to see my mic

Have you installed the drivers for the onboard sound?

As saundie says - drivers are probably the culprit here (assuming of couse that if your using your front panel mic connecter that it is properly connected to the mobo).

When i first had this problem last week, yes the problem was fixed by installing my onboard sound/ chipset drivers. However the next day the problem started all over again.

In the last few moments, I've also noticed that Logitech setpoint and my macro buttons aren't working, despite having the Win7 drivers installed for both my G11 and G5.

So im not the only one who gets these lil pains from win7. oki doki, so u have the mobo drivers updated and all other drivers.

For my razer it all worked fine for a week then died out- had to full reinstall it. SAme for my digi camera i had to dowwnload some special stuff from the kodak website.

FOr ya mike have ya made sure that u have it selected in the record and playback options? Also you got it in the right hole

Yeah and sure it isn't muted?

A complete audio driver uninstall/clean/re-install if probably worth it Vexx.

It doesn't even show up there, its all plugged in right though.

I think I might have to result in doing a fresh install, even if its only to say I've done something

If nothing's working, go for a clean install of Windows. It might be a pain having to move all your files around, but it'll be far easier than continuing to troubleshoot this issue. The problem may be caused be conflicting drivers, for instance if you have two different sets of sound drivers installed at once (or remnants of one set and another installed). If you re-install Windows, just make sure you install the correct drivers for everything and then start sticking your programs and games back on.

I've had many mic problems before, but I found that usually just plugging it in without installing drivers worked better than actually installing specific drivers for my headset. Anyway, my verdict is fresh install!
