    LAN / Broadband issue

    My rig used to work fine on broadband in Bridgend. Then I moved it to yeovil, and avoided all opportunites to drop it except one minor one.
    I have tried connecting to my BB in Yo through my Belkin N1 vision router but it fails to recognise that the lan cable is even connected. Hence it wont connect.
    I have got round this via a wireless usb dongle as no built in wireless but I want to take advantage of the 7.2mbps broadband here so need to work out whats wrong.

    I am on BT internet, and all the other lappys work fine either lan or wireless.

    I have a conroe exfire Esata2 IDE mobo and the ethernet controller is realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI E Gigabit Ethernet NIC.
    Just after I brought the rig, my HDD froze and so I installed a new F3 spinpoint and reinstalled XP.
    Is this just a driver issue.

    Spoke to BT and they insisted its a hardware issue, oh and they dont do Belkin routers so push off and ring your manufacturer - cheers bitch.

    Can anyone suggest how I can resolve this issue and get back to cabled broadband?

    Help Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
    Thanks

    Just change the last octet of your router's IP to make each connected device unique;

    What OS are you running? When I ran Vista my PC one boot up with no network connection every now and then and a reboot was required, but since moving to 7 it's been fine. Also never had any problems in XP.

    You need to find out what the IP address your router has, usually something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, BT HomeHubs are often 192.168.1.254.

    The default Gateway and Primary DNS address will be the same as your router IP address. Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0. IP address will be the same as your roouter, but change the last digit to be something between 1 and 254. If you get an IP address conflict, it's because you've chosen the same last digit as another networked device on your network.

    Does the router recognise the connection? ie does the number light up on the router?

    Are the lights on the network port of the PC on/flashing?

    Try going into device manager and uninstalling the network device and restarting your PC.
