    HAAALP with memory!

    Hi guys

First of all I would like to apologise to all computer gorks for killing and knifing them constantly If you help me I promise not to do it anymore (LIE, LIE, LIE )

I have a tiny problem, which I'd like to solve. It relates to my PC memory. I have "Patriot Memory Viper Series PVT36G1600LLK". Here they are:

    http://www.patriotmem.com/products/d...&id=763&type=1

As you can see they are PC3-12800 (1600MHz), 8-8-8-24 1.65V

The problem is that my computer recognizes them as PC3-8500, which I don't understand:

I'm guessing it has something to do with my BIOS configuration.

I've changed couple of things there, such as latency (default 9-9-9-24 to 8-8-8-24), frequency (from 1066 to 1600 MHz) and voltage (to 1.65), but it still did not change memory bandwidth. These are my actual settings:

Can someone explain me how to change it to be PC3-12800. I'm such a noob in terms of the BIOS

My motherboard is ASUS Rampage II GENE

    Seems fine to me.

CPU-Z reports the Max Bandwidth as PC3-8500, which (I assume) is correct as this would be the original speed of the memory. I believe what manufacturers do is then play around with it and configure it to be stable at PC3-12800 speeds. It's nothing to worry about - your RAM is in fact running at 1600MHz with timings of 8-8-8-24. My computer also does this, but it's what you put in the BIOS which is what counts.

Also, CPU-Z reports your DRAM Frequency to be 785.2MHz, which is correct as this doubled comes out at roughly 1570MHz. The 30MHz drop below 1600MHz is probably due to how you have got your CPU-DRAM ratio set up as RAM frequency can be limited by CPU frequency depending on whether you have the clocks linked or not. Again, nothing to worry about.
