    New CPU required for BC2

    Ok as some of you may know my CPU is not up to playing BC2 and so I have a budget of £200 to look at updating my CPU & motherboard. I have looked at the following:

    CPU: http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...=hdz955fbgibox

    MoBo: http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...oduct_id=36115

    What I want to know is what people think of this combinatoin and is there any alternativeswithin my price range?

    That's a good shout. You're very unlikely to find a combination cheaper than that since almost all other AM3 boards have DDR3 slots which will add an extra £100 worth of RAM into the equation.

    Btw, Scan.co.uk has both those items a little cheaper, about £15 less in total.

    However, I wouldn't expect to see a huge increase in performance because your graphics card is probably limiting BC2 quite a bit as well. Certainly worth saving a bit more and getting an HD5770.

    I have got the Phenom II X4 965be and it runs everything beautifully!
    (955 can be clocked up to 965 easily - I just couldn't be bothered...)

    UPDATE:
    I've ordered the items and should have them for saturaday before Noon....Something to do over the weekend

    The graphics card can wait several months, I just want to get the game playable for now!

    Awesome . Out of interest, what graphics settings are you running it on? I'm surprised it's made such a difference - looks like the upgrade was well worth it!

    Here are my current settings:

    [WindowSettings]
    Width=1600
    Height=900
    Fullscreen=false
    RefreshRate=59.882999
    VSync=false
    [Sound]
    Quality=low
    VoipEnable=true
    SpeakerCount=0
    [Graphics]
    Effects=medium
    Soldiers=medium
    Vehicles=medium
    Overgrowth=medium
    Undergrowth=medium
    StaticObjects=medium
    Terrain=medium
    Shadows=medium
    Bloom=true
    HSAO=true
    MSAA=2
    Water=medium
    MainQuality=custom
    Texture=medium
    DxVersion=10
    Aniso=0
    Detail=medium
    RenderAheadLimit=2
    Fov=85

    I get between 50fps/35fps but never lower than 30fps. I still need to play baout with the settings, any recommendations?

    I'm sure you could get away with putting the sound quality up a bit now. You might also be able to turn up the visual quality settings although leaving shadows, water and effects where they are will leave you with a few frames in hand.
