    so you have a harddrive out of a knackered PC and you want to get the stuff onto a laptop?

    buy a usb convertor or something if you don't have another PC to put the drive into. you just need to know if the hard drive is SATA or IDE.

    Look at the connectors;

    IDE Hard Drive: Attachment 495

    SATA Hard Drive: Attachment 496

    Also, if it's a SATA drive it'll be connected by two small, thin-ish cables. If it's IDE, it'll be connected by a small cable and a big, chunky one.

    Your hard drive is almost guaranteed to be SATA, unless your computer is very old.

    Something like this thrash - http://www.amazon.co.uk/IOMAX-SATA-A.../dp/B001A5SK56. It does both IDE and SATA and comes with power adapters.

    I've got a couple of similar things at work, reasonably cheap and bloody usefull to have.
