    Torrent Security

    Hey all,

Back in the days of XP I used Peer Guardian to filter out unwanted IPs when I was torrenting... however the Peer Guardian version for Win 7 is only in RC stage at the mo so I don't fully trust it to get the job done.

Any alternatives? What do you guys use for security when using torrents?

dont use torrents as they pretty much suck...

try newsgroups, much faster, safer, no viruses, you get what you ask for and its much more anonymous

Yeah I don't like torrents either, but I've been using newsgroups for the last year or so and they were fantastic but my usage now really doesn't warrant the subscription cost (my ISP doesn't provide them free ) so torrents are ok for downloading things now and again if you know where to look. I used to use Giganews which was expensive, then went to Astraweb for unlimited downloads, unlimited speed and about 600 days retention for only roughly £10/month. But it's a waste of money considering I barely downloaded anything over the last couple of months.

Could you not just install the XP version and then run it in compatibility mode?

    i use usenetserver.com...

$3 for 3 days... unlimited downloads, and always fills my 8mb connection so i just queue up a load and then rape the internet for those days

    http://www.usenetserver.com/en/index.php?

    give it a shot

Ooh thanks Ripple, looks a bargain to me I'll give it a go some time next week then!

And Vexx, I probably could but considering how insecure torrents are and the laws on using them, I'd rather not risk installing something that's going to do a half-arsed job. Think I'll stick to news servers

consider changing to rapidshare. For 60 euro a year i get 5gb daily with rollover gb to 25 gb. Your isp wont cut you off because you have very few connections which they will not identify as pirating, and you can dl to your hearts content.

    Worth every penny imho.

is that not subscription though? I thought the point was to avoid paying for the times when you dont want to use the service

there are several options for rapidshare. I buy the annual subscription because it is easier for me. You can also buy something like 100GB for 10 euro that doesnt expire. Just throwing alternates out same as you did with usenet.
