    Importing American speakers

    Hey all

Recently I've got a little into Hi Fi, and with it being all well and good, I was wondering.

If you buy a pair of Speakers made for the US market, will they require a US amp and transformer? Or is it different for speakers? I didn't think the volts would have any effect on the Ohms and watts?

    Cheers

    Hi sinny,

If the speakers are active (i.e need a power supply to run) then yes it will. If the speakers are proper hi fi speakers regardless of what make your amp is then it will not require any additional power (i.e passive).

The ohms and watt are nothing to do with the voltage or type of volatage ac/dc. It is more corresponding to hi fi specific ratings. Ohms is the the speaker load it will put on the amp. The ohm or sometimes known as impedance help hi fi users dtermine on how best to match the ir speakers to amps.

most general speakers are in about the 6-8 ohm range the is the most common. but you can get speakers which can either go as low 2 ohms or high like horn or electrostatic speakers.

It has been a long time since I have last dabbled in hi fi. but if oyu have any questions and i can help then please don;t hesitate to ask.
