Got iPhone? Yes..then get Air Video!

Ok, I installed this yesterday and I am REALLY impressed with it. Watched vids most of the night! It was great not having to convert then sync them. Also ran some converts in the background, added the converted vids to itunes and synced them to the iphone (on my desktop which has itunes installed).

The iphone app crashes sometimes, but isnt too bad, i wouldnt remove a star for that. Really like this one, reviewed it at 5 stars, and it is now my second favorite app (Stanza ebook reader is first). I also loaded it directly on my home server as well to stream directly from there. The iphone app lets you add multiple "servers" so i dont have to configure anything else as both servers show on the browser.

On sale in the apps store for $2 even.

Video Streaming Air Video can stream videos in almost any format to your iPhone and iPod touch. You don't need to copy your videos to the device just to watch them. Live Conversion If the videos in your collection are not in format supported by iPhone, Air Video will convert them on fly*. You don't need to wait until the entire video is converted. You can start watching it almost immediately!
    * Live Conversion requires iPhone or iPod touch with firmware 3.0 and a sufficiently powerful computer (Intel Core 2 duo or equivalent processor is recommended).

    Streaming

Air Video can stream videos to your iPhone and iPod
touch. You don't need to copy your videos to the device
    just to watch them.

    • Automated server discovery on local network using Apple Bonjour
    • Possibility to add custom servers by specifying IP address and port directly Can be used to stream videos over internet (see the appropriate section in FAQ)
    • Share disk folders and iTunes playlists
    • Optional password protection
    • Add videos to iTunes playlist from iPhone

    Conversion

If the videos in your collection are not in format supported by iPhone, Air Video can convert them on fly (live conversion) or offline (entire file).

    • Videos that can not be directly played by iPhone can be easily converted. All major containers and codecs supported (mp4, m4v, mov, avi, wmv, asf, mpg, mpeg, mkv, 3gp, dmf, divx, flv). DRM protected videos as well as proprietary codecs are NOT supported.
    • Live conversion allows you to play videos without having to convert them upfront. Requires iPhone or iPod touch with firmware 3.0 or newer and sufficiently powerful computer.
    • Option to convert entire video before playing it (offline conversion)
    • Files converted offline can be put to conversion queue
    • Adjust quality, zoom and resolution for each video individually
    • Select audio stream (language)

Dragon, apologies in advance as this post is pretty much nothing to do with the content of the thread because i don't have an iPhone but just an idea for the website - perhaps we could have larger posts like this as an item on the front page? I reckon it'd look pretty good to have tech news kind of items like this in that grid on the home page to keep things ticking over as we've had the same few articles on there for weeks now and these kind of threads seem very informative and interesting to most. Just a thought

Weets is responsible for that. When he sees a post he likes he adds it to the front page as a blag type entry or an article.

    Thanks though.
