Icon6 EVGA Classified SR-2 Motherboard. Insane!

This basically looks like an attempt at a server motherboard for gamers. It's huge, and can house up to 48GB of RAM, dual Xeon CPU's and 4-way SLI. Also, it's extremely pretty

To add to that, EVGA originally created a new form factor for their first Classified 4-way SLI mobo because it was so big - XL-ATX. This one appears to have broken the mould again, with a new 'HPTX' form factor which measures in at 15' x 13.6'! How it's supposed to fit in a normal case, I don't know. Serious modding needed me thinks!

I dread to think how much it'll cost. I'm pretty sure I could fit the "XL-ATX" board in my case, but not the quad SLi version. Even so, it's exciting to see such extreme products out there.

    According to http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=22960 :

There's no mention of availability as yet, but EVGA has the board listed at a cost of $599.99 (roughly £400).

The only reasons I can see are that it is targeted at those who value their e-Penis more than their health, and for EVGA to show off what they can do to with current technology.

I'd rather go for a Tyan S7002 in that case, at almost half the price :|

I suppose if you wanted to build an ultimate eyefinity setup then this would be the way to do it. This is not for the user who does a lot of vm machines or transcoding etc.

But more about pure out and out gaming/benchmarking.

Even if the board is 400-500 pounds which is stupidly expensive it still represents the cheapest component if you were to go the route. 2x980x will be 1600 quid. But the real benchmarkers will probably want the xeon w5590. Not even the 980x can beat it clock for clock.

The appeal of a 980x/w5590 I am finding hard to resist for tinkering fun and i am trying to resist as best as I can. But the dual socket boards specifically geared around the 980x etc don't interest me at all. The only baord that might interest me is soon to be released asus rampage 3 extreme and even then it would have to do something really special that my current board could not.

Redders, you know you've already got one of these on pre-order. I expect you'll only use it as your folding rig too.

It'll probably become his torrent box after a few weeks

By the way GorkedWings, the Core i7-980X cannot be run in DP, for that you'll have to go for the Xeon 5600 range. The x5650 is probably the best value for money, a mere £850 for six 2.66GHz cores.
