    How old is the Xbox and is it still under warranty? I believe MS give you 3 years' cover for the RROD so the safest solution is to send it back to them. It may take 4-6 weeks at most, but if it under warranty then this is the best thing for it as it will be returned to you with a warranty still in tact if anything else should go wrong. If you bought it from Game, I think they give you one years' warranty (you may have had to pay for that upfront, not sure) so if you have that then use it as it will be quicker than MS, I would imagine.

    If it is not under warranty;

    Don't bother with any RROD X-clamp fixes you may find in shops or on eBay. I have repaired many Xbox's with them and every single one has died again within 3 weeks to 3 months.

    You could send it off to a professional with a re-flow station to basically stick the graphics chip back on as that is what's at fault. There are classified ads for this on eBay, but beware with these as some people will simply heat-gun it or put it in an oven. You need to make sure to find someone who does it with a proper re-flow station designed for this sort of job. It can cost you anything from about £25-40.

    If you would prefer a cost-free (in monetary terms, anyway), hands-on approach then you could try going to town on it with a heat gun or baking it in the oven. HOWEVER, these are reasonably risky and not guaranteed to be a permanent fix (although the baking 'trick' works pretty well) and if you don't take the time to properly read up on them then they will go horribly wrong and totally brick your Xbox. I have links and advice a-plenty if you're really desperate enough to do this

    If NONE of that is possible, Game are selling brand new Xbox 360 Arcades with the newer Jasper chipset for just £130 so you could get one and pop your hard drive on there. Pre-owned Xbox's are an absolute no-no.

    If its the RROD and the console is less than two years old its free. Over two years and its about £60

    Go here:

    https://service.xbox.com/servicehome...t=en-gb&scrx=1

    and follow the instructions, really efficient service and takes less than a couple of weeks. Returned my eldest lads last year and whole thing took seven days, free of charge.

    My neighbour returned his just before christmas last year, it was a three year old console and they replaced it with a brand new one.

    Hope that helps.
    It's better to burn out than to fade away.

    I fixed my ring of death by changing the powersupply.. just test unplugging it and plug it into another socket..
    Don't know why it worked, but it did.
