    Alien Vs Predator - full game ( lordgeordies opinions )

    Hello all

    i have played the poor deathmatch version of the demo, but at last my full version arrived, now i was an old school lover of the first 2 versions of this game on the PC and i am ganna rip this one apart if it can't re master these. ( more will be added as i progress )

    just started as a marine so thought i would give people an idea of it. ( from the start of the marine mission )

    a review based on (neg = negative) and (pos = Possitve )

    (neg ) right after a painfull installation.....stupid amount of time to get onto steam, no idea why
    (neg) ran via Alien vs Predator instead of chosing Dx11 or Dx9 i get crashes after the first cutscene.......managed to get it working via DX9 option, even though i have DX10
    (pos) Graphics seem better than i expected, they aren't the most amazing but they work in this situation, very creepy and atmospheric and love the Aliens they are spot on! ( see pics below)
    (pos) the sound effects are spot on from my fav scare - the motion tracker, to the aliens screeches and pulse rifles
    (neg) some of the character models are a bit dumpy and move akwardly
    (neg) i am a rookie marine and i can't jump over a small barrier???? crap!
    (pos) lots of cheap scares, get your lights off and sound turned up!
    (neg) feels oddly clunky as though everything was layed out to be a console game, from the menus to the HUD and subtitles, even at 1920 x 1280 the lettering is childlike.
    (neg) needs a bit of work on events as one point i was waiting what felt like 2 days for a battle behind a door to finish. Also to the point where i ended up next to a body for about a 20 seconds before it was pulled up a vent, think i was suppose to see that from a distance........i could have helped lol
    (pos) lovely lighting effects in parts and nice smoke effects, flares creating nice pink glows
    (pos) love the interaction with scenery, like pivoting on a door to open it or picking up fuel cell
    (pos) camera effects - being bashed in the face by an alien causes some nice bluring.
    (neg) needs a patch to improve performance in areas like every game nowadays, it needs tidying up!
    (pos) love the ammo on the side of the pulse rifle, been done before but still nice touch
    (neg) where are all the graphics options we have come to love, hardly any here boooh ( console effect )
    (neg) story so far is a bit............we have seen it all before ( but hey all games like this are the same nowadays from the days of doom )
    (neg) no aim on the guns............why???? we are used to the atmosphere of looking down a gun to steady our shots. i unloaded half my ammo testing that as the right mouse is used to fire a burst of fire.
    (Pos) environments looks spot on so far, very 'aliens' inspired!

    Cheers for that review Lordgeorgie, it does give the overall impression of being rough edged, too long in development and unpolished. Shame about the console-ness of it all. I can kinda understand the no sights element as when are you going to be picking off enemy's from long range, its more about the spraying, on the other hand the game is going for realism and trying to put you in the place of actually being there, so aiming seems like a good idea.

    I think I'm going to pass, doesn't sound like it really warrants its pricetag.

    2nd part of review!

    Hello

    further on in the Marine mission and things are hotting up!

    (pro) I had one of the most frantic and brilliant fire fight with aliens, crawling all over the place, it was amazing, short controlled bursts! ( they moved so well and fluidly! )

    (neg) Audio files, why do i have to go to a menu to listen to it? how to break the atmosphere?

    (neg) DX10 have to run in DX9 version for now until they sort it out, looks like DX11 are fine though.

    more pics ( look at the smoke effect in the light! lovely! )






    need some quiet time to play this in the dark again - will return when i get another session in, hope this is useful.
