    SLR digital Cameras?

    Hello

right i have always wanted one of these, as i love macro shots, but the main problem is i wouldn't pay a huge amount for one.

my friend has the nikon D80 which i was looking at, but for its specs it seems too expensive, i just want an SLR for graphic design images and my girlfriends work shots.

what would you recomend? and where to get it uber cheap ( as i ahven't done any professional photography since i was 19 and that was on a 35mm )

thanks for any info or help

matey i just need a starter that takes excellent macro shots ( i know that depends on a lense ) i need it as cheap as possible, as i would like one to play around with and if it appeals i will start to move up the ladder.

i was hoping for a Nikon D80 second hand, but blimey they don't lose their value????

I'd recommend the canon 400d if your on a budget, its knocking on a bit now but is still good on specs. Had mine for 3 years, no problems and has proved to be very tough.

I got a Nikon D5000 last week, very nice indeed. I'm not sure if its out of your budget range, but it's fantastic for its price. I picked up mine for £360 with a starter lens kit.

I use the D5000 only for natural shooting though. For stuff like slow motion and capturing fast moving objects I use my fc100 which can shoot 30 full size 6mp images in 1 second.

Aye Same Camera as my housemate - rates it very highly. Just a couple of "Decent" shot's he's got out of it. I asked him about Macro shot's too...:

It's very very expensive, I've got my self a pretty decent setup and I can tell you that the lenses you buy are the key thing. As long as the camera is of a suitable resolution its the lenses that provide you with quality shots.

You can expect to pay 300+ for the camera and maybe a lens too but any other lenses (of a good quality) will probably see you starting at 300-400 quid.

Don't get me wrong, I love my D70 but its a very expensive hobby

The D5000 is the 1 up from the entry level D3000 but both have some good packages going brand new for less than 400.
Problem is neither of the packages has a dedicated macro lens.
Same brand lens, Nikon/canon, are not price friendly and many go for sigma or Tamron lens for the price difference.

Does depend on how much use its going to get as to wither the price you pay is worth it.

I have a D300 myself and as Darth said it is an expensive hobby

Have you thought about the Sony SLR's? Very good value for money with superb Picture quality. The first ones fairly cheap for the quality you'll get out of it and probably a good starter kit. The second and 3rd are simillar a price but in that instance i would go for the canon EOS 1000D.
In reality it all depends on how seriously you want to take it, its an expensive Hobby but you'll find you spend more on lenses and filters rather than the actuall camera.
For good quality at a low price the Sony A230 is a brilliant start but if you get hooked you will soon be trading that in!
