    The John Terry Situation

    Yay, I've taken the Sports Arena's thread-virginity.

Just curious as to what people's views are on the England situation with JT - should he keep the captaincy/give it up/not be allowed in the squad/etc.

Personally I think as a role model he's let himself and the team down, but is it really worth kicking him out of the squad? England will be better with him, and even if he does give up the captaincy I don't think it'll make much difference as he'll still be there to command the back four at least. Therefore, I think it's all a bit silly and we should just forget about it and let Capello do what he wants. If JT goes, I think it's gotta be Gerrard or Shrek to take the armband.

I think he should lose the captaincy as he is supposed to be a some sort of decent role model, which now he isnt. And i agree i think Gerrard would be the best person to have it.

i think he should ask his team what they want him to do, its no point him giving up his captaincy if it'll have a negative effect on squad morale, and theres no point him holding onto it if it'll effect morale either. Ok so what he's done doesn't set a good example to all the little kiddies out there, but if we base our teams on who does/doesnt set a good example over those who have skill, no wounder we do s*** in competitions.

Disagree with everyone who thinks his career should be affected by this.
This is his private life we are on about. Yeah what he did was ****ty but hell..... its his life. Football is his job, not his life!
He didn't want to be a footballer to be a role model he wanted to do it as a proffession because he was good at it and loved it. He didn't say i want to do it to be a role model, other people call or make others role models.

I could understand if what he did was illegal but hell its not. He did something that thousands of people do every day. He cheated on his wife and although not a nice thing, it happens all the time. Just because he is in the public eye he gets judged as a bad person? Is he a bad person? Think how many people you know who have cheated on a partner? Should they be fired for it or should it effect there career?
I remember hearing statistics a couple of years ago about how many divorces there were in britain per year. I was shocked at the figures. Most of them i would imagine were due to a cheating partner. Its part of life, he is only human and to be honest shes pretty frikin hot. Not many would turn down the chance to get a leg over.
Thats my opinion and i'm sure the opinion of most of the footballers who will be playing with him in the England squad, hell the majority of these lads are probably at it to. By the way when Beckham cheated on his Posh muppet, was his football career ever put in jeopardy?

That is EXACTLY what I had been thinking before I posted this thread.

However, I think the point is that football is no longer just a job, it is almost (cliché coming up) a way of life for many people in the England. JT represents his own country and has one of the greatest honours in English sport - captaining his country. Whilst the matter in question should in no way whatsoever affect his position in football, I think it has tainted his reputation slightly.

Baloo, he may not have chosen to become a footballer so that he could be a role model but the simple fact is that he is very good at what he does and people look up to him because of it. People who are very successful are generally the ones who become role models and JT is one of those. I don't think he should be stripped of his captaincy, and his squad position should remain unchanged, however I think it was a pretty silly thing for him to do given the position he is in.

Tbh it's all been blown right of proportion and frankly it'll be a joke if he is left out of the squad.

Well if JT does get left out of the squad and we don't win the world cup we know who to blame

Agreed that it should affect his professional career, at the end of the day when he plays fro England he represents the whole country.

I thnk he should do the right thing and stand down as captain, give it to someone who deserves the respect of their team mates.

TBH I've never liked the **** anyway. best thing he ever did was miss his penalty against MU.
