Support Has a game afected you like this?

sorry its quite long but a good drunk ramble from me

I have to ask this and some of you may find me rather strange for this but i will try explain what i am on about in a very slightly tipsy drunk haggis way. Pleaase ignore all grasmmer and spelling mistakes as i am rather dyslexic. and when i say rather i mean Very in a way that im ****e with words but can remeber every single phone number in my mobile.

Watching final fantasy Advent children with the missus tonight i remeberd why i do not watch this film in any mood other than good. When i am drunk slighty sad or down it gets into my bain and causes strange reactions.

I started on the final fantasy games on FF7 in my 11-12 age on the ps1. At this age i was, how u say rather imprssionable. I fell inlove with the game and with could. I saw my self as him as a bit of a strange person where society sees him as a bit wierd but he has his onterage of close friends who will help him no matter what.

I think i must be the only person at the end of Advent children who can almost cry as i have gotten so into the film and remeberes the game story line and become cloud. i have no idea how to explain it but maybe i need "help" when i was younger playing the game i saw it more of a book with visuals and got really into the story more than the game style and fighting.

Also when i was younger i also thought of my self as seophiroth when i was being a bastard and anoying pople on purpose and cloud when being nice.

Its srange but as i have go tloder no game has had this affect on me at all, like ever. Maybe the witcher got close but i must admit i played the witcher when i was very depressed and in a massive low in life and ithink my brain got into the game cause it was something different to the real world.

So before you all think im more strange than i already am im going to get to my pint well point while drinking my pint is I would like to know if i am the only one who ever got close to a game like this and the charicters when younger.

I would like to hope maybe something similar happened to other people?

So my vote for awesome immersive game when younger was Final Fantasy 7 for me. whats yours?

Also sorry for ramble im kinda on my 4th leitrhe of strongbow and also no piss taking plz im a geek

For me my first totally obsessed game was Ultima III: Exodus. I played it non-stop on a IBM PC Junior in 1983. That was followed by discovering a battletech online MUSE which was the precursor to all MMORPG. Think of an ascii based mech combat game in a unix enviroment! Was quite fun and i spent 1000s of hours on it (including sleeping in my chair and waking up to find my mech in the corner of the world map and a 3 hour walk back to base!). I did this in uni years (1993-1995), and it almost ruined my chance at a degree, and actually added an extra year to it. THAT was my obsession.

    Deus Ex.

I remember downloading the demo when it was first released (I must've been about 8 or 9 at the time) and from the first second of hearing the intro music I knew it was going to be an awesome game (check it out if you haven't heard it, the theme tune is amazing ). Got the full game a few weeks later and in the ten years or so that have passed since I've had it, I must've completed it around 20-30 times (including a full play through a couple of weeks ago).

The graphics may be horrendous by today's standards, but the choice system employed by the game is still, in my opinion, brilliant as you can take so many different paths to completing optional and required objectives. It's open ended, but at the same time it retains the structure of an FPS.

The storyline is incredible, I was totally in awe of it when I was younger and to this day it still fascinates me a huge amount - full of real-world (although not well known) conspiracies about world governments, the Illuminati, Majestic 12 and other things like that. Really interesting stuff if you're into that kind of thing.

The character development system was pretty cool at the time as well, as you get skill points awarded (sort of like XP) for exploring areas and completing objectives. These can then be assigned to different skills and weapons training such as lockpicking, electronics and even swimming ability. This is of course a feature in pretty much every RPG out there nowadays, but it works so well in Deus Ex with the open-ended storyline as your choices can drastically affect the paths you take to completing objectives and ultimately the game. Even things you do early in the game are remembered later on, depending on what choices you make - for example, in the first mission you can rescue Gunther yourself or let the UNATCO troops free him after you've completed your other objectives and if you choose not to free him yourself then a few people mention it in the next mission and he has a go at you himself for it later in the game when you have to kill him. Oooh, spoilers....
Anyway at the time I found this just plain awesome. The re-play value is immense - not something really associated with FPS games in my opinion.

It's still by an enormous way the greatest game I have ever played and it really changed my tune about FPS games as I wasn't a great fan until I played Deus Ex.

Mine was pretty simple, first time I played the Grand Theft Auto series was when it went 3D with GTAIII, after monster sessions I did get millisecond impulses to try car doors, or when I got my licence; sudden thoughts about doing ridiculous things. Obviously I would never act on these thoughts as I'm not interested in getting the Daily Mail excited.
