    Any ebay gurus around?

Got myself in a bit of a mess over at ebat and wondered if there are any gurus here that could tell me whats best to do.

So basically i sold a book i got for free thats pretty crap so i out it up for 99p and only 3 days with a pretty poor description.

The rrp for the item is £15 and it sold for £38!

I then went looking on amazon to find out how much you can buy it for and found the same book going for £1400. I wondered what the hell was going on so done a fair bit of phoning round shops and found out that the book is out of print therefore it will go for more than th rrp but nowhere near the amazon price, people reckon between £50-100. Looking on ebay under completde listings, one went 5 days before mine for £85

So now i'm thinking to myself i want to pull the item and resell it but this time i know what it is so i'll put it on for 10 days and add the details into the description. Now the guy who won the bid said he'd pay for it yesterday and didnt so i thought this was a good sign and i relisted it.

Only, i expected the item to go from the sold area but it didnt so i've got one in the sold and one in the selling even though its just a relisting. So does this mean the original guy could pay for it and i'd have to send it to him?

All i thought was that because i was relisting it i couldnt go through the official channels to get my final fee back, but now i'm not so sure, as youre meant to wait 7 days and then they get final reminders and stuff.

Problem is i just had no idea what it was when i first sold it.

Did you have any limits on when you wanted payment.

If you've said paymentmust be within so many days and it wasn't then your in a position to say to the original person that he broke the contract first.

I know that you'll be charged twice by ebay for relisting so you'll haveto pay 10-15% on both selling prices.

I'd try and contact the original buyer andmake sure he doesn't pay as you'd haveto refund plus extra to cover paypal charges.

I've sent hiim a quick message to say basically he didnt pay on time and ive therefore re-listed but i imagine if he wanted to he could create a bit of hassle, hopefully it doesnt come to that.

And yeah i thought i would have to pick up two final fees, but for the first its only £3.60 or something so i can live with that.

The main problem is if he contacts ebay i can imagine they will say i have to sell it to him, then i'll be kicking myself for selling it for so low a price.

If you've put in your description that you will only accept payment within a certain time, and he hasn't paid within that certain time, then you are absolutely fine and are entirely in the right to re-list the book.

However, if you have given no prior indication of when payment is due, it's down to you to let the buyer know when he must pay by if not immediately - I'm sure that's the view eBay would take.

If he pays for it then you've got a bit of a problem because you haven't stated when payment is due and have also relisted the item rather quickly, and if he pays then either you have to give him a full refund or send him the item.

Some sellers on eBay are perfectly happy to wait up to a week for payment, whilst others only 24 hours. If he uses all this against you then good luck winning the battle against Paypal (if he goes down that route). If not, you get away scot free, but bare it in mind for the future
